Our Philosophy

Let me give you a little background about how we got started. Naomi Beaty and I began teaching in our school district about the same time. We were both Reading Recovery trained teachers and delivered this program at each of our schools. In addition to this program, we worked with students in Grades 2-5 who were having trouble learning to read. Our positions changed to Instructional Specialists, allowing us to support teachers in their classrooms, to continue to work with students who needed intervention, and to deliver the district’s dyslexia program. All this is to let you know that since the early 1970s, our passion has been to help children overcome their learning difficulties so that they can experience the joy of reading. Logging over 100,000+ hours in our combined 38 years of service, you can be assured that the Words + More = Reading Success program is one that has come from a background of countless hours of experience, training, observation, and dedication to helping children become better readers. This is a program created for teachers by teachers.

Words + More has come from our hearts and souls, many years of training, and countless hours of experience in helping children overcome their difficulties with learning to read. Now we want to share Words + More with a broader population of teachers and students. We are ready for this new journey to prepare the way for providing teachers with the best way to deliver reading instruction to students in need.
